I just realized after one year of having mine that I never got the cd.

Most dell's, HP's, and COMPAQ's do not come with a OS CD. If you go to my computer and look at your hard drives there is space set aside for the "system". This is the area where all those manufactures placed your "CD" as a section of your hard drive. You can also order the disc from the manufacture for a fee, its not very much, but will take a LONG TIME! Hope that helps.

It's actually very common to get only a restore CD. Dell and many other PC vendors have been charging extra for an XP CD for some time.

None of the major computer companies include a CD anymore.
That is fallout from the lawsuits from people whining that OEMs paid less than retail.
So you may get a restore CD, you may get a restore partition, but you won't get a real XP CD from anyone.
Some systems give you the ability to burn restore CDs or a DVD.

Get a friend to burn you a copy. You have the important part - the reg code sticker on the case.
Copy the i386 folder from the CD to the hard drive and you won't need the CD unless you want to reinstall.

no, not unless you bought if from a friend, and if you did,then you will have to purchase, the soft ware from the manufacture or an alt, you can buy the windows XP pro CD, the register the product in your name.

Vendors are now creating restore partitions that are hidden. You'll have to contact Dell or research their site on using their recovery software or procedure.

actually i believe you have to pay extra now to get the cd....they dont come with them anymore

ive seen some puters that come with a software to mirror ur drive and leave it up to you to make a restore disk ....
