Carrera means a career but it could also be a lastname but in this case I think it's a career.

Apart from race it also means: career
profesión (profession), estudio (study), trayectoria (trajectory), actuación (performance), camino (path), etc.
In this case they are talking about the course of his profession as an artist.
When we ask somebody
What profession are you going to study?
We say: Qúe carrera vas a seguir?
