The difference between probation and parole is simple, probation is for someone that committed a crime or was accused for a crime and has court fines, restitution to pay and has to complete certain classes by a given amount of time because if not he or she will be incarcerated for that length of time that they were given probation. Parole is simply for someone that has been incarcerated and is given the chance to prove that he or she can live in society again.

Probation is usually handed out when you have gotten in trouble for something, but not done jail time. Parole is when you first get out of prison.

Probation is what they put you on before you go to jail. Parole is what they put you on when they are letting you out of jail. In both cases you have an officer checking up on you and one mistake you'll be into jail.
