I was given nitrous before I got my wisdom teeth out. I was nervous about the procedure to begin with, but as soon as they gave me the gas, I felt 20X worse. My heart started beating really fast and my head felt really weird and I hated it! Do some people just not respond well to the gas?

It is possible that you had too high of a dose. Just enough gives you that relaxed feeling, too much makes you sick--kind of like drinking. Sometimes nitrous makes people vomit. But bottom line the levels were probably set too high. You may want to try it again but ask for them to start out at a low level and gradually increase it until you feel relaxed. Sorry you had a bad experience.

The hygienist is right. Don't listen to the first guy that said you might never wake up because you never actually go to "sleep" with nitrous. Being drugged would be much more risky.

No, some people don't respond well to gas. In fact, in rare cases, some people never wake up. Next time you need to get a procedure done, have them drug you instead.
