we also both work and my husband has a long commute so he stays upstate for at least 2 or 3 nights a week. we make the time we have home really count.
i clean the whole house on thursday night so that we don't have any major cleaning on the weekend. i work on the laundry a little bit at a time so it doesn't get overwhelming. i also make out a menu and do all my grocery shopping on my lunch break one of the days i work.
we pretend each weekend is like a vacation. we don't let things bother us and don't deal with problems if we can help it. it can wait till monday.
we also started routines so that we don't waste our day away. we always go out to breakfast on saturday morning. then we try to find a family activity going on, if not we'll go to the movies or bowling or just home and play games and watch a movie. we stick to a schedule and really spend all of our time together.
after our son goes to bed my husband and i always do something together - a movie, games, etc. we don't just lay around and play on the computer or read or something alone.
at night, we get home around 5:30, we have dinner and then play games or do something with our son. around 7:00 he gets in the tub and i run around and pick up and do the laundry. when he gets out he gets a movie and i get ready for the next day. 8:30 bedtime so i have the rest of the night to do whatever.
it is possible. most families now are two income families. you are lucky you only work 4 days a week.

I find this hard to understand. There are seven days in a week and you work only four. How come you don't have time for your family? What are you doing on your days off?

Break down household chores. Give each family member 1/2 hour per day of your chores. Get them with the program. Then you will have 1/2 hour per family member to spend with them.
Also. The huge spotless house you see in commercials is a myth. Sometimes you need to decide that your time is a little better spent LIVING in your house instead of cleaning it.

well what time you do have take the kids out to eat and to the movies. show them how much you love them and care. do you really need to work to make ends meet?can you make more money babysitting at your house? did you know that you could find ways of earning money working from the house? some people make jewelry and sell it. some people make flower arrangements. also crafts that you can sell. the kids can go with you when you are selling them.see if there is a way you can earn money from your home.i would check into doing something like this. take your children on picnics and find fun activities to do with them.. sit down and color with them and read them stories and do things that interest them.

its a hard compromise thes days, with most families needing two incomes to get buy. if your only working 4 days a week your lucky, thats a pretty good. however if you feel you need more time at home and can afford it. id cut back another day, or just find somthing part time. good luck I know its tough, but other poeple have it a lot tougher
