I'm taking part in a drama performance, involving nude scenes. They randomly picked who's doing what part, and unfortunately, I got the nude girl role. The nude scene is suppose to be in a pool, where I am suppose to accidentally lose my bikini. I'm not too keen showing my body, but I got picked for the role. Should I tell them that I want a different part? Or should I keep my role to show off my body and get embarrassed?

Basically I'm asking if it's right to go to them to ask if I could change roles. My teacher is really serious about it, and when I asked her how I got a role I didn't want, she just said that I was the most suited for it. When I asked to change roles, she said I needed someone to trade spots, within this week. I don't think there's anyone else that want my role.
Also, I have to be completely nude, in front of about 100 people.

I might go ask the teacher if I could have someone nude with me, changing the script a little. I have no idea what to do right now, cause it's pretty hard to change roles.

Also, is it normal for teachers to force people for stripping if their not comfortable about it?

You can ask for a rewrite but depending on your drama background (i trained with a serious drama teacher if the scene said strip you stripped). Just remember there will be people there who will see you either topless or in all your glory (do you lose your top or all of it?).

If this is a local bunch and not serious theater and you had qualms losing this gig won't break you..after all are you getting paid for it? What is the play and who wrote it? Is this a worthwhile performance or is it just a scene written by some horny guy who wants an excuse to see some skin?

You sound as if you're not really wanting the role that much and believe me other roles will come. If you doubt the scene or if it bothers you that much it could affect your performance so walk away.

When i did theater i saw so many of my fellow actors and actresses nude or in states of undress between scenes it got to the point where nudity or partial nudity was pretty normal.

If you're really upset about it, than I'd share this with the drama coach again and see what some alternatives could be. On the other hand, you might want to think about why you're upset about simple nudity within an appropriate setting. I'd be happy to do such a scene because I'm very OK with being naked in front of others...I love the nude beach, after all!

I really think that if you go through with it, you'll find it a very liberating and fun experience, and you'll feel great about yourself afterward.

Simple nudity isn't sexual, but it is a personal issue and your views should be considered and respected.

Good luck whatever you decide...and bare hugs!

If you can see the art in the play and you are a true actress you will do it because that is what the part calls for, however if you are only there to be cool and because that is what everyone else is doing then you will find a way to get out of doing what is required for the part. If you didn't want to do it then maybe you should look at getting into something else.

Well, this is a difficult one. I know that there are roles that require nudity and or partial nudity. However, in a drama class I don't believe that an instructor can "force" you to participate if you are not comfortable. I have a question though, in your curriculum or syllabus, did it state that this may be a possibility? and did you sign a student/teacher agreement to this?

You should not be embarrassed to show off your body. You are probably at least good looking. The teacher most likely had a good reason to do this. You might look like the person you are portraying. People should not make fun of that. If they do, then they are very immature. I wouldn't even care how you look because its a play for god sakes.

I would do it.

Yea I would think generally you would have had to sign something saying you agreed to it, even if it was when you signed up for the class.
maybe there was a clause that said the teacher could ask you to do whatever, which is sort of sneaky but I believe would be legally binding. You can try to challenge the decision but you might get kicked out entirely.
