As a medical doctor, you would be commissioned as a Captain (O-3). I have linked the pay scale site below. NOTE: This is a BASE pay chart only, it does not include your entitlement payments which can total upwards of an additional $3,000.00 per month (a recruiter would be able to tell you exactly which entitlements you qualify for, but at a minimum you should be able to count on at least an extra $1500.00/month on top of your base pay). The military pays bonuses (also monthly) for certain medical specialties - for those you would have to check with your recruiter. The site below also allows you to see the entitlements (unfortunately not the bonuses) - just follow the links.

Iraq51 - I was speaking of ENTITLEMENTS (i.e. BAH, BAS etc. NOT the bonuses - the 1500 number is a ball park guess assuming the questioner is married, lives off post etc. etc.)

The annual pay isn't much more than the pay an officer of the same rank receives. It runs from approximately $4900 - $6200 per year and if the doctor is board certified the doctor receives an additional $2500 - $6000 annually. The amount for both monies is the depends on the number of years they have been serving.

The minimun additional pay for a doctor is just $416 per month and $624 per month if board certified. The $1500 per month figure cited by the previous respondent is simply incorrect. This can be verified by checking the charts on http://www.military.com.

Additionally they receive Special Incentive Pay as Medical Doctors. These incentive pays are annual not just a one time payment.

Examples....

Family Practice - $13,000
Emergency Medicine- $26,000
General Surgeon - $29,000
OB/GYN - $31,000
Orthopedic Surgeon - $36,000
Anesthesiologist - $36,000

And for a Pyschatrics...$15,000...how appropriate!

Also, the maximum incentive pay is $36,000 annually.

The link below also provides the information on the additional & incentive pay for Dental Officers and Nurses; who are also officers.

Besides a bonus that is paid to you, more if you are a specialist, you get the same base pay as any officer in the military. go on the net look up military payrates and look for an O-3 under 2. Also some links give the pays for specialities. Good luck
