I would suggest that you see an Attorney to find out what you should do, I would inform the companies to let them know that she past away. But inform a Attorney so you can find out what to do in reference to accounts like bank, retirement and so for.

A mortgage is secured by the property. The bank can take back the house. Credit card 'loans' are unsecured. That means there is nothing that is backing the loan. There is nothing the credit card companies can take. They can mess up your mother's credit reports, but that won't be a problem. Tell them 'too bad, bye bye.'

In some states the family of a deceased are held responsible for any bills incurred. Your best bet would be to ask for a consultation with an attorney, most give a 15 minute consultation for free. If she left a will or had anyone designated as the executor of her will there should be instructions as to what to do with her property, bills etc. Go to Google.com and type in "Ask a Lawyer" check the links and hopefully one of them may be able to help you or answer your questions. Best of luck and my condolences for your loss.

Your mothers property is placed into an "estate" and all creditors must file to get a piece of it. So if she doesn't own a lot, they won't get paid.
Unless you were a co-signer on the loan you have no responsibility at all. Worse that will happen is you will have nothing to inherit.

I'm sorry for your loss.
You aren't directly responsible for the debts, but value of her estate would have to go toward paying her debts before anyone can inherit anything. If she didn't have enough to cover the debts, you do not have to make up the rest.

I am so sorry for your loss, here is the answer to your question:
Absolutely not! Creditors might try to come to you for your mom's debt, this is a sickening and illegal tactic used by credit card company scum that you do not need to respond to.
Again, my sincere condolences for your loss.

they cant hold you responsible but if you have any cash or real property to inherit from her, they will put a lien on it, so that you cant inherit without paying them.

Whoever is in charge of her estate would handle all her bills.
