take a look at www.visualthailand.com, then click on the photos link, then click on the shopping link. There are over 100 current photos of what you can buy just walking down Sukhumvit road from Soi 3 to Soi 19.

This will give you an idea of what. However, if you want brand names, you will pay more here in the malls than in the states.

As the other poster said, you need to BARGAIN and you will get cheap prices.

Learn 3 Thai phrases before you come and bargaining will be easier

1. How much is this one? - an nii tao-rai (pronounced an nee tao lie)

2. The the clerk will show you a price with a calculator if they cannot speak english. What ever price they give you say
peeng mak! (pronounced like pang mahk) It means it is to expensive.

3, The clerk will come back with a lower price, at which time say, Lod Noi Dai Mai? (pronounced Lod Noi Die My) means can I have a discount.

You have to remember in Bangkok 100's of people sell the exact same thing so if you don't not get the price you want, walk away.

I have seen things on Sukhumvit street shopping go from 1250 baht quoted to farangs, down to 200 baht final sale.

Bargain Hard, its expected and to be good, you need to use the three Thai phrases above.

It will also help if you understand the thai words for
10 baht - sip baht
20 baht- yii-sip baht (prnounced yee-sip)
50 baht- haa-sip baht
100 - pronounced like nung loy
200 - pronounced like song loy baht
500 - haa loy baht
1000 - (nung) pan

Thay way when they show you 500 baht on the calculator you can say song loy baht or 200 baht and get a good deal

Good luck and shop to your drop. We appreciate you supporting the local economy by spending as much as you can as fast as you can!

Depends on what you will be buying.

The biggest thing you need to know about shopping in Thailand is BARGAIN.

The best barganning tips are these... Always smile. Thai and Laos people believe in doing business with a smile on their face. They believe bargainning is fun and important. They feel uncomfortable when you scowl or frown. My sister and I spent a lot of time there and found barganning harder in the touristy areas. Sadly this is because the vendors here are jaded, and very used to white people giving up their barganing at realy high prices.

A good bet is to figure you'll pay 25% of what you would pay for something in the states. This is a rough estimate as some things will be higher and others lower.

A great book to read before you go- or on your way over. Is "Thai's mean business" Its short and will give you a great insight into how to do the best there.

Good luck!

if you buy cheap non branded clothing the price is around 100 baht for one Tshirt and 300 baht for trousers, but if you want brands, it's almost the same price as in America

Bring as much as you want for shopping to your heart's desire. But don't bring too much hard cash. Bring your ATM card for safety reasons (and credit cards). But remember... spend within your means.

Enjoy your shopping.

Nothing here is cheaper than in your home country.
Stay home, and buy what you want - it's cheaper and no one is cheating you.
