That is very very tricky. Don't indiscriminately delete anything. A lot of Microsoft stuff is connected to other programs somehow. Once I uninstalled Paint on an old computer and it affected Word and other programs. Don't do it unless you are absolutely sure of what you're doing. Make backups and make sure you have program disks before getting rid of anything so you can reinstall if necessary.
p.s.- do not "delete", you have to uninstall them.

Hi. If you run XP then do the following. Start, Run, type in "msconfig" without the quotation marks. This brings up your start up configuration files. To the end on the right is a tab start up.
There are the files and programs loading when your PC boots. You can unclick all unnecessary programs that uses a lot of memory and resources. Make the command row bigger so you can see the files. Anything with a "windows/system" don't unclick. You will recognize other programs like Adobe, Firewall, anti virus etc. Uncheck unnecessary programs but not virus, firewall and system programs. It will not let you uncheck you important processes, so don't worry. After restart, a message of notifying you that you amde changes appears, read and check the, don't show this message again. If any programs don't work according to your needs at start up, just go back and check them again in msconfig. Good luck.

You don't need ANY programs or applicatons to launch on StartUp.
The ones that launch your Operating System are in the BIOS partition, and that is not the question here.
As long as you can access your programs and applications on from the START menu, or through the Explore window, you do not NEED any other.
ummmm, except I would have your anti-virus launch automatically if you go on a Network, or the Internet right away.
My Start Up folder is empty.
I use my desktop and START button short cut menu to access my programs...I'm happy.
You can safely delete the program SHORTCUTS from your Start Up Folder, which will NOT delete the Program. It will only stop a program from automatically launching, when you log on to your computer.

Don't delete anything you need to use first of all. Also for the most part don't delete anything that your os uses. Sorry if that answer is too obvious. Your computer might be running slow from a filled hard drive but for the most part it's your memory that slows your computer down. You could always upgrade that.

if you are trying to speed up your startup, it's not the programs you delete. to speed up the startup, you need uncheck programs you don't need start when you turn on your computer. when your computer is on, these unwanted programs are on in the background. to see what programs start in the background go to START

Go to start, settings and control panel. Then hit add or remove programs tab. Select any program that you dot use anymore and hit delete.
Just make sure its not anything you use but on a rare basis or something that you cannot get back. Once its gone, its gone until you reload it.

i press ctrl-alt-delete to bring up the task manager. click on the processes tab. then, for every program listed there, I plug the file name into google and figure out if it is bad or good. if it is bad, i end the process and delete the file.
