Nobody mentioned teaching morality and values.

This is very necessary and practical. If people follow these morals and values, then there will be a common "goal" or set of behaviors. Now if those morals and values are such that it makes the greatest number of people feel good, then that's the ideal one.

Christianity teaches to give to charity(value), show the other cheek(value), do not kill(moral law.) These make members of the society to work better together because there is a common moral/value system and because these laws make the most people happy.

For info: I am atheist, but my morals are very Christian, I just don't believe in God, any god.

The dumbing down of society. The rejection of knowledge that conflicts with religious dogma.

The lack of equality in society. The religious believe that no matter how ignorant, undeducated or mentally deficient they may be, they are still superior to some minority within a society.

I noticed an countries where Christianity is not(China,India,East Asian countries...etc)What is life like there?
Number two.We suppose to meet together.The true Church are the believers.But remember Jesus said there would be false religions.It is simple to pick them out.Any church that goes beyond the free gift of salvation through Christ is a clue.

Sorrow and happiness. Someone cannot say that it has brought total sorrow or total happiness though. History shows that it has brought both(in my opinion more suffering than anything else).

........All the other answers I have read thus far are true..........................But in my belief the questions should be what would a true belief in God and a throwing away of all religions bring to society.
