But it is not against the New Testament. Read the book of Acts of The Apostles where Peter (a Jew) was invited by God to eat pork and other things that crawl on the ground and preach to Gentiles. And pork eaters do go to heaven.
It is not against the old testament, but it would be a violation of Jewish and Levitical law. Reason: The pig is an unclean animal.
It is important to remember: Adherence to the Laws God gave the Jews does not provide or guarantee salvation. Remember, there are two parts to the Law. One part identifies sin, and the other part is the blood sacrifices a Jew must do to atone himself of sin and get right with God.
Also remember: God did not want people to live by Law, because he knew it would be intentionally misinterpreted by the people so that people will think that they can earn salvation by following a code. Salvation is given, not earned, and that is the trap of the Law. Nevertheless, it is what the Jews wanted, so God made it and gave it to them. Read Exodus. God wanted the Jews to live by faith and a personal relationship with Him, not by deeds and personal merit in strict compliance with a law.
Christ fulfilled the Law and so today we can eat whatever we want to eat and still go to heaven because our hearts are pure and we realize that salvation is a gift from God that can never be earned on our own personal merit.

It's not just Christians who eat pork. As an agnostic, I enjoy eating some boneless country-style ribs or shoulder blade chops with steak sauce from time to time.
This is a simple moral choice. Probably because the hog is an unclean animal. But I don't have this belief, and I like pork. But I like beef even more. Anything wrong with that? I would rather enjoy pork than contemplate the existance of heaven.

The old testament; people were living under the laws of Moses.
Christians are under the grace of God instead of being subjected to the 613 laws of Moses.
To Eat pork or not to eat pork is a non issue.
Back during the time pf Moses; eating pork was a dangerous proposition because they did not have refrigeration to keep the pork safe to eat.
I have made jerky; and you can make beef jerky and keep it in a zip lock bag for a year or more; but if you make pork into jerky; the pork will go bad in less than two weeks.
I think some people got sick and nearly died 4000 years ago; and forbidding the eating of pork was one way to prevent illness and death.

Simple economics, when most people attended main stream churches, beef was priced slightly higher than pork allowing them to eat more beef, the the off the wall churches took off and suddenly the word christian was a household name, these churches feed off mainly with the under middle class and introduced Jesus as a all forgiving all loving god, so people did not feel bad about eating pork and eating meat on Fridays during lent, after all they were Christians and not of the main stream church that to this day are still viewed and non christian but are tolerated.
So the Christians with there all forgiving god have the power of sin at will as long as you pray for forgiveness it's all good.

In the new testiment Jesus declared all foods clean to eat.
Act 1A1:5 "I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, something like a great sheet descending, being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to me.
Act 11:6 Looking at it closely, I observed animals and beasts of prey and reptiles and birds of the air.
Act 11:7 And I heard a voice saying to me, 'Rise, Peter; kill and eat.'
Act 11:8 But I said, 'By no means, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.'
Act 11:9 But the voice answered a second time from heaven, 'What God has made clean, do not call common.'

We are no longer bound by that law, but there is good health reasons why not to eat the items specified in the OT.
I don't eat pork because for 1, it isn't good for your cholesterol; & 2nd a pig doesn't process the food the way a cow does, so what ever it eats (being a scavanger, that's everything), you also are eating.

Christians are allowed to eat pork. We are living in a time of Grace, we no longer live under the old Jewish laws. No one could keep them back then or now. There are hundred of laws that the Jewish nation had to follow in those days. Pork is only one.Jesus brought about the freedom we enjoy today, not to be criminals, but so that we do not have to live under all those laws. When you believe in Christ, His forgiveness, takes away your sin. This doesn't give you a license to commit sins, if anything because of God's goodness you strive to please Him, by accepting Christ, you please Him

In the old testament, it was a sin to eat any creature that was considered "unclean". With the birth, death, and ressurection of Jesus Christ, all that changed. It is not the deciding factor as to whether or not you will go to Heaven. Only the Father which is in Heaven can make that decision. It is by His grace and your true redemption....

In the new testament--either hebrews or romans, St. paul said that some don't eat pork because Jesus didnt' want them too, then others ate because Jesus said that whatever God made was good and it's not what goes in the mouth that is evil, but what comes out of it. St. paul, then said, it doesnt' matter as long as they do it for Jesus.

Eating pork is heaven, mmm.
Ppl know more about germs now, so the reason not to eat isn't a problem much anymore.
