I am tapering off of wellbutrin and started taking 10mgs of Lexapro a day. does it take a while to start feeling better? Did anyone ever feel better immediately? I have heard of people taking one or two pills of an antidepressant and swearing they felt instantly better. The Wellbutrin used to work but has started fizzling out on me after 6 years of using and that is why I switched to Lexapro. Also is 10mgs considered a super low dose or should this be fairly sufficient in relieving moderate chronic depression (dyshthymia)?

It depends on the person. Some people do feel better when first taking anti-depressants but may not feel the full effect until up to 3 weeks. 40mg is usually the highest dose of Lexapro so 10mg is actually ok, its a starting dose. I liked Lexapro when I was on it but after a while I couldn't keep a high enough therapeutic level then went to Zoloft. I think after 2 weeks if you feel no improvements I would talk to the dr. Is a psychiatrist prescribing your meds or a regular dr. That can make a difference to. If you have the can't get out of bed-can't funtction in life kind of depression then you need to call the dr and see if they can make an adjustment.

In clinical studies, many patients treated with Lexapro began to feel better within 1 or 2 weeks, although the full effect may take 4 to 6 weeks. You should follow up with your healthcare professional and report your progress.

Any change of mood alterring medication causes a temporary sense of euphoria or a sense of feeling better 'instantly'. We all know that with any treatments pertaining to the health of the human mind, consistency is a key factor which is only achieved over time.

Do not measure your progress by the milligram as this is very mileading especially when referring to newer forms of medicinal therapy. Many new forms of medications are designed specifically to be administerred in lower doses with less frequency but with optimal results.

Be patient, healing comes with time.
