Why do I get a sudden and uncontrollable urge to run and go pick up my pet hen? Could it be her pretty eyes, her soft feathers, or the way her sharp claws tear my shirt to shreds?

Chickens are the best. After I have her settled down in my arms she is nice and calm, but by then my shirt is hanging in ribbons.

Wow, I'm getting a little wood here. That's some chicken. But you have to remember, before she breaks your heart, that hens are not all that true. First thing you know, she'll be bobbing around (yeah in that teasing sort of way) for the rooster.

So what does that leave you? Just a torn up shirt.

Oh, and the fixings for a pretty good Chicken Kiev.

haha... that's awesome!
I get that urge too.
I used to hold pidgeons at my friend's farm. Chickens, too.
Once a hummingbird got injured at my grandmother's house. I think it broke its neck :(
But I like to think that I offered it some bit of comfort by giving it some warmth. It seemed to be unconscious, so I don't think it was scared. It died in my hands. Since then, I've always had a soft spot for small birds (as well as other animals).
