Well maybe you will meet someone at the movies. I assume you are a guy. It would be better to go with a guy friend then that way you don't have to pay for them and it will be funner.
However, if you don't have anyone to go with it is better then staying home by yourself. A lot of guys go to movies by themselves.

Going to the movies by yourself is okay. Saying that you can't afford dating, is not okay. Lets say you go to the movies twice a month. Well next month, only see one movie and take girl. Ta-da! Don't use the can't afford it excuse for not being able to get a date!

I go to the movies by myself alot. I just like to hang out with myself sometimes. I think I'm a pretty cool person.

Its all right to go to the movies by yourself. but who wants to see a bunch of other couples at the movies.

People might think you're weird but I personally don't see anything wrong with it.
Trust me, I've been to movies by myself.
It's sad but oh well, I don't feel like this whole dating thing, you know.

If you can pay for your own movie ticket, you can pay for a date, as long as your date agrees to pay their share.
