The Walthers PPK/s is the most commonly seen in the US. The 's' stands for "stainless steel." New it is around $500. US.
The blue steel & nickel are usually European made and can be very pricey. I've seen them for a thousand or more. A used PPK/s will still be around 4 to 5 hundred.
It is a good gun but in .380acp many women find it hurts their hand. This is true of men and women with small hands. Consider one in .32acp (if you can find it chambered in this round) for less snap. Finally note: The modern PPK will usually chamber hollowpoint ammo just fine. This is revelant because the .380/.32acp is a marginal defensive round. You need the best hollowpoint ammo that your pistol will chamber. Earlier models only chambered ball ammunition reliably.
Probably more info. than you wanted. Sorry.

The Walther is an excellent choice for concealed carry and personal defense. The PPKs is actually more common and a better choice for concealed carry. First, the 's' stands for stainless steel, so the finish is more durable. The barrel/slide length is slightly abbreviated so it hides better. The magazine/frame is the same size as the PP so your capacity remains at 7+1. The .380 acp is generally considered the minimum defensive round. This is especially true when you use quality defensive ammo. I like the Federal Personal Defense Hydra Shok, but Cor Bon, Winchester Silvertips, Gold Dot, etc. are all good. The older Walther pistols sometimes had trouble feeding hollow point ammo. If this is the case in yours (won't be the PPKs which is 'modern'), then either have a gunsmith check it out or use the Remington Solution (hollowpoint bullets guaranteed to feed in pistols that only feed ball ammo). The P-99 is a 9mm and worth the extra money if you want a 9mm rather than a .380 acp (sometimes called a 9mm Kurtz, or 9mm Corto, or even a 9x17mm). Take the gun safety course and if available in your State get your CCW. Congrats on deciding to take responsibilty for your own protect. Final note, the .38 Special is okay, but not the 'bee's knee!' Good luck. H

The PPK will run you about 5 and a half new, however at gun shows you might be able to negotiate it down to $500. Get the stainless variant, especially if you reside on the coast. Mine needed the ministrations of a 'smith. He cleaned up the insides by polishing and he removed the serrations from the face of the trigger. This greatly slicked up the action, hence, improving practical accuracy. Your mileage may vary.
One other thing, get some good training with it, as it is well worth the price of your life. Then practice at least once a month. The pistol is only as good as the user. Practice, practice, practice.

My friend bought his wife a PPK for her birthday, he paid just over$500 plus tax and transfer fee for a stainless version. His wife loves it. Now she has a Glock 17, a seven shot Taurus 357 and the PPK and she's good with all of them.
Where does it say she doesn't know what's she's doing and needs advice on what to do with it or what she should have bought instead? I know female competitive shooters and my GF is an ex coasty trained in armed boarding.

Suggested retail is $549
You should be able to find one in most good gun stores for around $500 new.
Just curios why the ppk?
If its James Bond lore remember he used a .32acp (7.65mm Browning) PPK, you will find the.380acp ones far more common.
If your looking for self-defence or carry check out the sub-compact Glock and Kahr arms pistols they are chambered for more powerful rounds (9mm, .40 S+W, .357sig) are about the same price and size (the Kahr MK series are smaller) and feature consistant trigger pull from shot to shot. and usually better sights.
