A phrase said of someone who is in danger of 'spoiling the ship for an ha'porth of tar' Someone who is thrifty in small matters and careless over large ones is said to be penny wise.

PENNY WISE AND POUND FOOLISH - "Overcareful about trivial things and undercareful about important ones. The literal image is of the person who fusses over small amounts of money to such an extent that he misses opportunities to save or make large amounts. Yes I believe it. I've done it myself. I bet most people have.

does that mean when people dont have a lot of money they spend it wisely, and when they have a lot of money they spend it foolishly? if yes, then yes i agree. do you see the crazy things that rich people buy. they have like 13 cars 7 houses and 5 yachts.
