I have BPD, and yeah, I have hopes and dreams, some realistic and some not. I frequently feel misunderstood, and I feel like a lot of the time people want to blame things I do on the fact that I have BPD. It's not an excuse, it's a disorder, and I hate it when people want to blame it for my reasoning. I don't feel too bad about the whole situation right now, but I am actually overdue for a med adjustment, and I know I'll feel better when I go next week to get it. A lot of times, people are scared of me because after the BPD part of my diagnosis comes with psychotic features, and they automatically assume that means I am crazy and I'm going to shoot a bunch of people or kidnap someone's kids or something. A lot of the stereotypes surrounding BPD are just because people don't truly understand or won't try to understand what it really is, and what it really means. Ignorance is bliss to most people these days, and I personally think that a lot of people use the out of sight out of mind philosophy, so that if they don't see you then they don't have to worry about dealing with you. That's another issue I am constantly running into, people saying "I just can't deal with you." I've never asked anyone to deal with me that wasn't willing to do so. I agree with you about the we are human with real feelings and such...but we are going to keep hitting walls because people are unwilling to accept what they don't consider "normal." What is normal anyway, and who determines normal? I hope this helps you some.

I have BPD and I think I am getting worse as the years go by..There is no recovery though there are so many treatments.I do sometimes feel hopeless (most days).. I do KNOW that even those closest to me don't understand me or my illness..Ignore the idiots that are insensitive and other things I can't say here because the truth be told..they probably need therapy and meds too..most of the people in my life who seem to want to "judge " me have more mental problems than I do though they are "perfect" and would never admit it.

I have BPD. I am starting a new program called DBT just this week. I have hopes. I have heard that we are the hardest to treat-you know, to get well. I do feel way misunderstood, and I feel like people always think I am trying to manipulate.

If you are willing to stick with therapy long enough to form a real bond with your therapist and then stick with therapy for as long as it takes to form genuine trust, the ability to form attachments without fear, and be comfortable in your own skin while assuming responsibility for the decisions you make and the things that you do. It is a long road. If you want it, it is yours. However, it will take determination and perseverence. IMO, it is well worth. After all, you have the rest of your life to live with yourself, and lonely is not as rich of a life as you could otherwise have. Reach for the stars. You can have one if you want.
