That's part of my big struggle these days. I don't like Christianity the religion, but I love and believe in Jesus.

Christians are just like anyone else. The problem is that many don't study the word for themselves with any regularity, and rely solely on their minister for their spiritual growth. But that does nothing but create a week and feeble body. Christianity as a whole would be better if we could do 2 things.
1) study the word for ourselves, and look for answers ourselves in the bible. and only after that do we compare what we have got with other brothers and sisters.
2) accept that each scripture has at least 7 levels of depth, and two views on one verse can both be correct. also it is good to have disagreements(Proverbs 27:17: Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.) so long as we don't cut ourselves off from each other if they are minor doctrinal differences.

I totally know where you are coming from. I recently experienced an incident with a "christian". I was basically discussing my thoughts on something hoping for some christian view feedback. She made good sense and so I went to give her a hug and she pushed my shoulder back. She attends church consistently and shares the word of God out on the streets to strangers but when it comes right down to it she's not what I consider a christian sister to be, nevertheless god is the same today as yesterday and forever more right?

Same here. It seems like more and more christians are hypocrites and bashers. I am a christian, but I inform people of Jesus's messages and not push it on them or tell them they will burn in hell. Afterall, who am I to say they will burn in hell--I'm not God. I try to live like Jesus would expect me too, but then, I see these "christians" who drink, do drugs, commiting adultery, etc, then go to church on Sunday and pretend they never had sin and they are holier than anyone else in the building. Do they think that no one is seeing them? Do they think that God does not know what they are doing?? Amazing, but that is what seperates the true followers from the wolves in sheep's clothing.

There are so many branches of christianity and all of them think they are right. There is plenty room for human error so you never know what to believe, or do you. You can feel it when you know you are doing something wrong. I don't like a lot of other christians attitudes. Some are snobby, others act all holy and what not. I also don't like Catholicism.

Dear cathe,
i'm glad first that you have clear thoughts on what you think about Jesus. In terms of "Christians" there are two things to keep in mind. One is that not every one who claims to be a Christian is. That's important because there are so many people on this website who answer questions as a Christian and their answers are not-biblical and also not shared in a Christ-like manner.
Secondly, is that Christians are always a work in progress this side of Heaven. It shouldn't surprise us that people sin and fall short of God. The key is what is their attitude towards that. A true Christian who knows that their action displeases God will ressolve to change that action and will bring their struggles before God.
God also gives us a wonderful picture of how to deal with this. God's heart is to share his love with everyone and that includes people who know His love- they are encouraged to grow. Christians are always looking to draw closer to God (although they do go through tough periods where they struggle and fall).
In the book of Ephesians God compare the relationship between Christ and the church to that of a husband and wife. Although a husband knows all the shortcomings of his wife- he never says, my wife is so ugly, my wife is so this or that... it says Christ washes the church through His word (the Bible) and He nourishes and cherishes it. Even though there are those in the church who have flaws and God knows them all- His heart is He loves and cherishes believers (even the imperfect ones). i think this is an attitude that i try to adapt. i encourage others to be better believers- but also know they have times when they fail- i myself know what it's like to disappoint God- but i repent and do my best by His grace and love.
Hope that helps. Kindly,
Nickster

I know what you mean. From what I know of Jesus, there wasn't much to fault in him. I am especially fond of his messages about children and the less fortunate - and his admonitions to those who would abuse them. He also seems to have had a principled disdain for the trappings of wealth, power and the vices they promote.
I do not have the same opinion of the likes of Paul, who to me missed the whole point. Worse, Christianity as institutionalized and propagated finally became Paulism. It seems Jesus lives in the heart of a few people who care and perform good deeds. Perhaps his message was too demanding for our sometimes bestial and petty species. I am not a believer, and if he claimed divinity, I dismiss it, but I do miss him as a model for men.

There are some who profess to be christians that get on answers to rant and rave to confess or you will got to hell. They also call people names and pass judgement on others who do not believe the way they would like for them to. I really do not care to be lumped into one category with the ones who behave like that. I do not believe that this is what Jesus was teaching in the bible when he said for us to love one another.

No, my feelings aren't mixed at all. I love Jesus, and believe in Him firmly.
As for my fellow Christians, I realize that we're only human, and try not to put too much stock in them.
I focus on my own path, and let them find theirs.

Jesus is fine, it's the so called Christians who make their own rules as they go along, they do what they want when they want, they pick and choose, not all of them, don't get me wrong, but I've seen more that take his grace for granted and it's not so much what they do, it's when they justify it that gets me.
