ok, so my friend is pregnant.... and she is going to go to a doctor for something totally different then her being pregnant... but the doctor will most likely find out she is pregnant b/c they are doing some kind of test or w/e, and checking her...down there.

and if you were the doctor, and she asked you not to tell her mother that she is pregnant... would you???

she wants to tell her mom herslef, but wants to do it when the time is right, she goes to the doctor soon, and she wants to wait until things go a little better for her mom

or would you just tell her mother anyway??.. be honest please.

I am not a doctor, but I am a paramedic.... HIPPA laws apply unless she is a minor, in which case she cannot make her own medical decisions anyway. But if she IS pregnant, that makes her an emancipated minor (down in my state anyway) and she is more or less an adult. So if it was up to me, it would depend on whether she is pregnant or not. If she is a minor though, I do not know how many clinics would see her without a guardian to sign for her.

A doctor is bound by a confidentiality clause similar to that of a lawyer, where the doctor cannot disclose a patient's condition to anyone. I believe this applies also to minors. So your friend should be safe. Her records are private, and if the doctor spills his guts then he can be sued for breach of confidentiality.

The doctor can not legally tell the mother anything about the appt, even if the girl is pregnant.

I say if he does do a google search for HIPPA laws it is a federal law pertaining to patients records. If he tells maybe she can sue for enough to raise the kid.
