Wires to the left of me....wires to the right.......

Try and minimize the wire runs for materials cost savings and five rows of two wires just don't look as neat as one single wire run of 8 or 10 wires - but that would not necessarily place the junction box in the middle - it would depend on the location of the service panel vs. the final destination of the wires.

I'm not sure I have a complete understanding of your question. I'm not sure that what you have in mind is a junction box. A junction box is simply a point midway in a conduit which allows access to splice wires, or to allow shorten the distance of a wire pull. Some junction boxes permit wire splicing while others are merely pull boxes allowing the installers an easier wire pull. I'm not aware (short of labor savings) how a junction box can save in material costs. Please clarify.
