Good point Burt, I would agree. Some of the uneducated, puerlie and as you said, venemous bile directed at Americans by some illiterate, know-it-all kids on here is appalling. I bet that half of them who are old enough to vote didn't even bother, ironic innit?
It's tantamount to racism sometimes, although the individual posters would no doubt deny that. We, I think are in what is termed to be the "silent majority". I don't know anyone who dislikes "Americans" in general, and as much as some of the posters on here would like us to believe it, the majority of the country (who don't moan and compalin all the time and just get on with things) don't feel that way either.

In the armed services there is what we call inter- service rivalry. Sometimes it gets so intense it turns into a knock down, drag out routine. This usually occurs amongst the younger set and almost always, there is the matter of libations being involved.
The relationship between the Brits and the Yanks is much the same, it's a rivalry, but let someone else step in and cause one or the other some problems and the rivalry disappears, once again we become brothers.

I think most people (anywhere) with a brain know that a small minority cannot possibly speak for an entire nation, so no, I don't think that the UK as a whole hates us. I certainly hope that the whole world and the English stop thinking that our wacky president speaks for all Americans! Most of the yank-haters have never met or spoken to many Americans, maybe they will broaden their horizons and view the world from someplace other than on the couch in front of the TV set. They should come on over - the pound is strong and we have any climate you'd like :)
How people act and what they say (or type as the case may be)shows more about them than they think - thanks for the kind and moderate words, and for sticking up for us.

Theres loads of cool Americans. Unfortunately though, just like us British, about 95% of everyone is a bit of a ****. And I do have issues with the Bush administration. And Blair. And don't get me started on Thatcher. Er, actually, I'm not sure I like anybody now I come to think about it. In the past 20 years or so, I'm becoming increasingly ashamed to be a human being. I like my kids though. And I like John Ringhoffer, he's an American.

Hell no I don't hate the Brits. I consider you guys our brothers in arms even though I don't agree with a lot of your county's politics which probably can be said the same by you. I have served with the British Army on joint missions and have the up most respect for your military. We are cousins and friends even with our differences.

It's easy to dislike a stereotype, but most people aren't walking stereotypes, just individual people with mildly stereotypical tendencies.
I think most individuals like other individuals.
I've been nearly everywhere on the planet, and most people are more or less the same: decent human beings doing the best they can on a daily basis to support themselves and their families.
I have lots of friends from the UK, and of course I think they're all lovely. None of them hate those from the US in general. Only really narrow minded people could be capable of that.

I'm a Brit and have been to America many times and like the warm and friendly nature of many Americans, but Blair and Bush have a lot to answer for with all the lies, and i make no apologies for laying into them.

I certainly don't feel that way. Personally I have never had a bad experience and have many Brit friends and acquaintances. We don't feel some people speak for all and hope you don't do the same. Cheers.
