My suggestion would be to look in Lawrence (if you're stationed at Ft. Ben). I believe developers have also built housing for the general public on part of the grounds of Ft. Ben.
Safest place to live is a judgment call. There's going to be crime anywhere there are criminals. I lived in the mile-square downtown and loved it. I walked back and forth to work everyday. I've also lived on the east side, northwest side and currently reside on the far west side. Apparently not far enough, however. I never had any problems downtown, but I've been a statistic 5 times on the west side. Time to move again.
Anyway, the reason I suggest Lawrence (or that area) is because it will keep you off I-465. It's a freakin' nightmare up there during rush hour.

I grew up on the Southside of Indy and loved it. Actually miss it a lot. The place is very safe and everything is convenient. I am not sure where the 335th is but I'm guessing it is around the Old Ft Harrison area which is in Lawrence. I used to be in a reserve unit in the same area, and lived on the southside and it was only about a 15-20 min drive depending on traffic. I would stay away from downtown not the nicest place to live. Broadripple isnt a bad area, but the traffic can get bad, plus there are a lot of not so nice areas really close. The northside is nice, but a bit on the expensive side. The west side is kind of ghetto and a lot of places you cant talk to anyone unless you know Spanish.

I'm originally from Indy, and it's a safe city, overall. I'd avoid living downtown. Close to Broadripple and Carmel are good. I have a cousin who works in Downtown Indy and she has to take the bus home, very late at night sometimes, and she's never had any problem. So, I hope you get better help than I can give, as I've been away for a long time, but I'm not afraid when I'm in Indy.

Indianapolis is a probability-free city. There are some factors that are not almost as good as others yet I have under no circumstances felt unsafe or prevented any area of the city even at nighttime. Indy has an excellent type of issues to attempt this have no longer something to do with corn. maximum issues are positioned in or close to the downtown area interior worry-free strolling distance. The eating places and nightlife are tremendous. The zoo and various of alternative museums are positioned alongside the river that runs on the sting of the downtown district. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is about a mile from downtown. there's a minor league (AAA) baseball crew on the city. For extra nightlife, try the Broadripple area on the north area of city. no count number the position you flow it really is straightforward to get to.

I wouldnt live right outside of downtown, it is kind of the "gangsta" place. But if it is JUST YOU moving i would reccomand the appartments on the canal! It isSO beautiful in the spring until fall!
Or i live outside of broadripple, and i would reccomand living in the Meridian Kessler neighborhood, Broadway St. is a great street to live on, there is not alot of crime and it is calm!!
