Any DVD ripper will rip the dvd to your hardrive and save them in a default folder or one that you choose. Read the help manual and it will you all you need to know. Some of the good dvd ripper is DVD Shrink or RipIt4Me. Both are free and real easy to use.

In simplistic terms a DVD is not "copyable" like a Audio CD, due to the fact that there are two files that have to be read during playback - one for the video signal and one for the audio. If the DVD is a "dual layer" then a special laser is used that allows it to be re-focused (phasing) to read the 2nd layer

The only way would be to employ a "ripper" type program that would convert the two files into a single file like an *.mpg or *.avi, then the files can be saved to a VCD or to your hard drive.

Another way would be to clone the DVD and then make another (burn) DVD if you have a program like nero.
