ODD is Oppositional Defiant Disorder. I work with a student with ODD and I used to babysit him. It is not 'treatable' but with medication he should be able to cope with it. However, being 14 a doctor should have been able to see that he was ODD. ODD children almost love a power struggle, they are moody, they actually try to annoy or upset people but cannot handle it when others annoy them. They often seek revenge and seem to hate most people... some are physically aggressive. I hope that is helpful!

ODD is Oppositional Defiant Disorder. It's not really treatable with meds. It often co-occurs with ADHD (and other psych disorders in children.) Sometimes the meds used to treat the other problems will help the ODD behavior to some extent.
Here's one of the more helpful websites I've come across regarding this topic (I recommend checking out the YES! survey on there...it's really interesting and can be helpful info to print out and share with your son's doctor/therapist.)

Oppositional Defiant Disorder and similar to ADHD. Some kids have both and can be treated with medication if severe enough. Do you and your son a favor, take him to your family doctor and voice your concerns and do not listen to advice from people that are not health care professionals. I have 2 grandsons with both conditions and wanted to knock sense into my daughter for listening to her friends and not a doctor. Both boys are on meds now and though it can be rough medication can help although it may take some time to regulate medications. If your son is on medication or put on new or different ones watch for side effects and make damn sure you ask the doctor what side effects any meds may have on your child. I say this for a reason, some meds given to kids for both ODD and ADHD can cause severe liver damage and they need a liver function screening every 6 months. Good luck and God bless.

Stop letting people tell you your kid is messed up because hes probably pissed off that you took him to go get tested already for a disability. One is enough. Dont make him think that hes so different from everyone else and keep giving him pills thats obviously the most dumbest thing to to do to a child. It can lead to dependents on drugs and low self worth and even suicide. Just deal with and he might grow out of it or if its still a problem when hes an adult he can fix it. Just make feel any less of a person by druging him up cause the docter says so. ok

If he is being treated professionally for the ADHD, then you should direct this question to them and NEVER mix treatments of this sort by multiple providers . . . whomever has diagnosed and is handling his ADHD should re-evaluate him to see if the ODD is a factor and adjust his meds & therapy accordingly or handle the referall, they must be in the loop if they are already medicating him .

you probably mean ADD Attention Deficite Disorder. Which means he can't pay attention. I have ADHD which I was told means Attention Deficite Hiperactivy Disorder. Which if I remember right is a combination of both.
