Hello there,

I take it this is a scheduled flight ticket you've bought and not a chartered (package holiday) flight?

I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but I'm afraid you cannot simply give your ticket to someone else to use.
Once issued, scheduled flight tickets are not transferable. Most scheduled airlines do NOT permit name changes.
The name on the ticket must exactly match whats on your passport/approved photo ID or travel can (and will) be refused.

The reason for this is that since 9/11, security is far tighter now than it used to be. The threat of terrorism is so huge and security measures have been tightened for passenger safety. Passports/acceptable photo id is the norm, and if the name on the ticket does not match the ID then theres a problem and boarding the aircraft will be refused.

However, depending on the fare paid for the ticket, you might be able to obtain a refund or any unused monies on the ticket might be exchanged for an "MCO" (Miscellaneous Charges Order) This can be issued in your name and you can use it towards a flight at a later date (they're usually valid for a year) OR, it can be issued in your name and you could buy a ticket for someone else using your MCO.

Alternativley you might be able to change the date/time of your flight to something suitable or to travel much later on.

The best thing to do is contact the ticket issuer and let them tell you what your options are with regards to a refund.. Or.. if you bought travel insurance at the time of booking, you may be able to make a claim on that & re-coup some money.

I hope it works out for you- all the best!

unfortunately, most all airline tickets are non transferable. However, in some cases the airlines will allow a name change for extreme circumstances, such as death, etc. Depending on the airline, you should be able to use your ticket within a year minus the xxl penalty. The residual can be used towards any other ticket to any other destination plus cost difference in fare.

really depends on the fare that you purchased and most airlines have nontransferable fare which are the cheaper fares and most likely you well not be able to change names only change your reservation dates but then again some fares are able to let you change the name on the ticket just depends if you have a lazy agent you are talking too or they have a lazy supervisor that cant override your ticket. if you have doctors note saying you cant fly that would help you

Sure... Hell you could even try selling it on ebay if u wanted. Airlines dont care, they just want to fill the seat and collect the money!
