There are thousands of letters and books recorded by the early settlers in libraries and museums across Canada

They recorded how scared yet exicted they were, described the long trip by ships to the new land.

Most have left behind family so the letters detailed how sad they were and went on to tell them of their new lives.

As most settlers came from extreme poor backgrounds they loved their new homes as they finally had a piece of land to call their own, but the hardship they endured was unbelievable as they had no idea how harsh the winters could get and they told of how they coped with the heat in the summers

These people were all special and I for one am glad that some took the time to record their lives in early Canada, for all to read some two hundred and fifty years later.

They suffered great and many hardships but they were strong people and perservered to provide a better home for their children
I have travelled throughout Canada and never seems to amaze me how strong they were to settle here.

There are still settlements everywhere in Canada that one can visit and actually feel and see how our pioneers lived.

The oldest ones are in Newfoundland and Quebec
It took almost 6 months to travel from " York City' to edge of the Rockies....then there are the stories of the "pan handlers' B.C.s gold rush....I still see some of their old cabins scattered throughout the area. They lived a hard life in thoses days and all their notes record how bad yet exciting it was.......

So, from what I read they were sad, excited, scared and full of hope for the new land and important to remember they rarely had the means to return to former homeland so they had to continue even when hope became lost for some as had no choice......

Canada was built from their sweat hopes and tears ............

Well, they would propably be thinking that this would be a fresh start, and they will live right this time. Some are far from that, but that is what I would assume most settlers coming to canada for a better life would be coming for.

But that is just me.................
