Studies are showing reading does help memory. Research is now clear that using your brain helps you retain your memory longer and any academic uses help reduce dementia and Alzheimer's.

I was in a car accident last year, and lost a good portion of my memory. I was also having a difficult time retaining new information. However....the more that I read the worse. I was reading, and wasn't able to remember the stuff that I was reading. So I would have to side with you. I don't think that reading helps with memory.

Well, I'm sorry to tell you, but your sister's right. Reading also helps with building your vocabulary, grammer, spelling and so on. Here is a website that my family loves. They have some of the greatest books you can get your hands on!
