He is not mentioned in the New Testament after the incident where Christ was found teaching in the temple at age 12. Many believe that he died before Christ was crucified. Some people believe this because when Christ was hanging on the cross His mother Mary was by herself and he told one of the disciples to look after her like she was his mother and like he was her son. I suppose the reasoning is that if Joseph were still alive then he would have taken care of her. Also, the total lack of any reference to him after the episode in the temple is curious, perhaps indicating that he died sometime after. For what its worth =).

Joseph was much older than Mary. The brothers of Jesus were Joseph's by an earlier marriage. Joseph died during Jesus' childhood, thus he is not mentioned after the trip to Jerusalem. When Jesus was on the cross, He gave His mother to the disciple John to care for because His brothers were not related to Mary or Jesus. If these brothers had been Mary's, they would have been assigned to care for her.

Because Joseph suffered from E.D. he was shunned by a society that should have embraced him. Everyone knew he couldn't perform, so Mary created the story of a virgin birth to protect Joseph. Years later Joseph opened the very first T.G.I.F, where he served as a part time bar tender for his remaining days. Little known fact, : T.G.I.F., was originally named T.J.I.F., the whole Jesus thing was changed to God later on, so people of different faiths would eat there.
