It isn't forbidden by God. At least not in the Bible. In Exodus, chapter 20, we read the Ten Commandments, and are told that we should not commit adultery. Adultery however is not defined as simply having sex outside of marriage. It's defined as having sex with a married person. Nothing is said to prohibit sexual relations between two unmarried people. In fact, if we look in the book of Leviticus, we are given a list of every situation in which we should not have sex. We're not to have sex with married people, or with family members, or with animals. We are not, however, prohibited from having sex with an unmarried person who is not in our family.

Some places in the bible, such as Mark 7:21, state that "fornication" is a sin. Religious assholes like to interpret that as meaning "sex outside of marriage." It's not true. The Greek translation identifies "fornication" as being any "illicit (illegal) sexual activity." However, as we saw above, God did not mention sex between two unmarried people as being illicit.

So why would preachers say that sex before marriage is a sin? My guess is that they never got any, so they try to prevent others from getting any.

So remember, if anyone tells you that sex before marriage is a sin because God says it is, they are lying and are going to hell by their own beliefs because of that.

The religions for which virginity is so important are, without exception, patriachal. It's not that virginity is important to some deity, it's that men have historically wanted their wives to have exactly one sexual partner. It makes it easier to satisfy them, if they have nothing to compare you with.
It does say in the Old Testament that a girl who has sex while living under her father's roof has brought shame on her father and must be put to death. It says nothing about a boy having sex before marriage.

It maybe due to the morals of the days back then, back in the old days you couldn't just pop down the chemist for a packet of condoms or the morning after pill, so there was a good change that if you had sex you got pregent. In the old days it would thought that the idea of getting married was to tell your lover that you wanted to stay with them for the rest of your life and have childern with them. Now if say in those old days a woman did had a child outside marriage she was bascilly ruined, no men would want her as a wife as she already has a kid from another man, no one would want to even employ a women of such viture. So in a way single mothers back then were signitised (sp). Now as sex was the main reason why people become pregent it became sinful to have sex outside marriage because of the chances of the man leaving the girl and plus ruining her life.

Pagans and earth religions worshiped women, men, sex and fertility because, well, face it we wouldn't be here without it. But then along came "God" and sex was looked down upon. This happened because a few men became angry at the "power" women seemed to have, the power to create life. Women were reduced to objects, and the creation of life became something "dirty". Any religion that believes in the feminine divine believes that sex and birth are beautiful and sacred.

Virginity is associated with purity which can bring us closer to God. Sex before marriage is wrong because it is not blessed by God. God only blesses for sex to happen when two people get married. God has also said in the ten commandments that you shalt not commit adultery and sex before marriage is adultery. Sex was made by God for two reasons. One to bring the couple closer together and two for the procreation of children. Whenever you take either one of those out of the equation, its wrong.

Sex is something that is precious and meant to be within a husband and wife only. Having sex before marriage ruins the sanctity and 'special'-ness of marriage. Its hard to explain now since the world is so promiscuous and if u're not promiscuous then u're seen as the odd one out. Its actually a sign that judgment day is arriving. Virginity is something special. Sex is something special. But its hard to keep that concept in mind when all u see, hear, talk about in the world today is sex.

They'll probably deny this but, because during Jesus' time, promiscuity was rampant leaving mothers unable to support their children because times weren't like they are now where a man simple HAS to take care of his children whether he wants to or not and can be forced if he continues to refuse. There was also uncontrollable disease.

Declaring that someone HAD to be married probably meant that they believed those things would be brought under control.

Purity, innocence, also the fact that sex before marriage has no purpose because it is considered only for fun and not reproduction. It is an expression of love and intent to reproduce between two life partners bonded through marriage.

It really has nothing to do with religion. It is all about inheritance. Men wanted to ensure that it was their offspring who inherited their titles, estate etc etc rather than some other mans offspring. So if a man marries a virgin, he knows that the first child is his.
