Because it is the most well-known council. Some people don't even realize it wasn't the first. It was a council to establish which doctrine was correct. The Trinity won out. Though by some accounts, some people died from the experience at that Council and others were exiled.

The council was assembled by Alexander to agree on a single selection of books to be called the official bible.
At the time there were dozens if not hundreds of different version throughout circulation.

That was the first big council and the one that get's all the attention, I know it was actually a council held sometime later that did that. The Nicean council mostly just established the concept of the trinity.
