Homosexuality isn't an abomination. Neither is contraception. Neither is divorce (not in every case... sometimes it's a cop-out).

The entire psychological community (or at least all respected, credible authorities within the community) have been telling us for the better part of 4 decades and in no uncertain terms that homosexuality is healthy, natural and unchangable. The Bible also has very little to say on the subject, far less than you think. Contraceptives would SAVE LIVES in Africa. The Pope is literally sentencing thousands of people to death by dencouncing contraceptives.

And sometimes divorce is a necessary evil. Sometimes the people we marry turn out to be far different than the person we thought we knew.

In reference to the scriptures, divorce is an abomination to God. The reason is because if people actually got married for the right reasons there would be no need of a divorce. If married couples acted as they were supposed to, divorce would not even be an option. Without the Father in your life, a true married life in God's eyes is not possible. A marriage is a holy union. To brake that union? How would you answer that question. Contraceptives in terms of use for fornication is an abomination to God. Contraceptives between married couples who want to enjoy each other physically and emotionally but who are not ready for children? What do you think......? Homosexuality takes away from God's original design. It exists because of original sin, as with any other abomination.

Think of this, God is Perfect; the measure of what is Perfect. Nothing can approach His perfection. Does that sound correct?

Taking that into consideration then, anything less than perfect would be wrong to God (a sin?). I was taught that in the eyes of God there are no grays. It is good, or it is bad. While I don't agree that contraceptives are an abomination myself, but if they are, then they are no worse than another abomination, or any "minor" sin that you might commit. Judging another, breaking any of the Ten Commandments, etc. So, if EVER you do anything which is a sin, it is the same in severity as another.

FORTUNATELY we believe that Christ died for all those sins. Believe in HIM and you shall be forgiven and saved. John 3:16
You might also ponder the fact that Christianity is quite a simple religion. It is made difficult and confusing by opposing views (often for political or financial reasons) bye theologians. The basics are simple. Accept Christ as your Savior. Try to do the best you can in your life. Die and go to Heaven. Christ came for US in love.

It depends on your basic beliefs regarding marriage and sex.

For the Roman Catholic Church, sex is something to be shared within the bounds of marriage and under circumstances that are open to the possibility of procreation. This is the basis for the reason that contraceptives, adultery, pre-marital sex, and homosexual sex are all considered sins. As for divorce being a sin, the RCC considers marriage to be a sacred calling and committment and therefore, is eternal.

All this being said, you have to get to the base of a group's beliefs to understand what is and is not considered a sin.

maybe your pastor should be married to a jerk and have a ton of kids! lol I think it's sad that any religion would say such things. Almost as sad as the ones who truly believe that their god would think any less of them for divorcing, using contraceptives or being homosexual!

Your pastor is like most pastors: someone who has never had a direct experience of God and instead believes an ego-projected god that is in the bible and agrees with his own ego.
