My mother....Shes 52 yrs old has 4 grown up daughters and 7 grandchildren, the problem with her is she gets obsessions with famous people the current one being Jose Mourinho the current Chelsea manager, it first it was funny but now its getting beyond a joke, shes got signed pictures of him she cuts every article of him out of the newspapers shes practically made a shrine to him in her bedroom, she watches every Chelsea match just to catch a glimpse of him although she has no interest whatsoever in football! She goes on like a silly teenager its embarrasing shes also been like this before with others it was antonio bandereas then for some strange reason it was john malcovich, I m just glad we dont live in London cos she most probably be arrested for stalking! Am I right to be worried or is this harmless behaviour?

Hi
You don't have to worry. You have grown up ans well as all your sisters. She just wants some time for herself and go back to the days when she was young. She wants to live that time again. Just leave her alone and let her have a time of her life. Hope this helps you. Thanks and good luck

It's hard to say how harmless her obsessive behavior is. My mother has OCD and so do I to a degree. Thus far I'm able to keep a handle on it. Generally I would say this sort of thing starts when a person lives too much in their fantasy world. And yes it is a childish behavior. Question: Is she married, divorced or a widow? I'm guessing, you'll forgive me, divorced. It's hard to have a relationship in the real world when one has unrealistic desires or expectations. On the other hand if she doesn't want a real relationship and her fantasy world remains within the law, I say let her have her fun. But it sounds like she is emotionally stunted. And let me guess. . . her fascination with Antonio faded when he got married. . . Good luck to you. I could see how this sort of thing would drive you a little crazy and could be potentially embarrassing.
Ciao!

This can be a manic episode of Bipolar disorder. Calling a professional and expressing your concern will help you decide if it's something silly, or something more serious. The professional (Psychiatrist) will be able to tell you the best way to deal with it. Good luck!

i really dont think you should worry about it too much, is she alone? as in no husband?> if she is, she could just be looking for something to fill up her life, her children are all grown up and have families of their own and she is just looking for some type of hobby, even if it happens to be a celebrity. when the behavior starts to be creepy, like writting letters, or going way way over board about it, maybe you should worry

It's harmless and something for her to occupy her time with!

You should only worry if she starts buying binoculars, cutting out letters/pictures from magazines to form anonymous love notes to them, and booking flights to the city/state/country where the celebrity resides at. ;-)

Why don't you share this with her? You could do something together then she might not be so lonely.
Having parents aint easy neither is having kids. Its like any relationship, it needs work son's and daughters don't realise this they (most of the time)think it just happens o-natural, but we parents are always trying to learn about our children whatever age, we don't stop trying to get it right just because your age or ours changes.
So be with her on this you might then get to understand why she is like it.

Harmless behavior hun, i wouldn't worry about it too much. Sounds like she is lonely, and is having her fantasy time ,which she may have missed out on in her teenage years. Leave her to it, she'll be okies soon.

She is a bit old to be having obsessions like this. As long as she doesn't get to actual stalking it is ok. You are right to be worried.

If shes having fun with this and shes not hurting anyone then let her have her fun. Shes not doing anything illegal. Shes just interested in different people and it probably makes her feel young.
