about a week ago we have had a fire in our home. which makes it unliveable until it's rebuilt. we are discussing moving into a condo and we can not have dogs. we love our dogs we already had to give up our two cats for adoptions. they will not be utinized. which i am thankful for. anyhow, what would you do? In the new condo I do not want my Poodle ot pee on the carpet. The pre owner never trained him. I have a doggy door in my burned down home. He knows of it. But while gone for a while out of the house, he seems to get his head wrong on. neverthless, what shall I do ? Is there a way that you can retrain a a6 year old poodle? I am devasted this has not been a good Christmas. Thanks for all who are giving me a cheerful response, I need no critizsim, as I am already feeling burned down.

Thanks every one. HE had a doggy door in our home that burned. we still able to go back and force . But both dogs are upset. Even the older poty trained dog had been so nervous Tuesday nite. She had a boobo.
I guess, we will find out what to do. thanks everyone, I will take a few consideration.

I would suggest crate training him for the duration of your condo stay... that way he won't be soiling the carpet. You can always get a large enough crate (Lab or larger size) so that if he can't hold it, he has plenty of space to get away from it since he isn't well housebroken.

Also, check out the book "Way to Go" by Patricia McConnell www.dogsbestfriendtraining.com for the ultimate housebreaking reference.

And may the rest of your Holiday season be bright... sorry for your loss!

I once tried to train a piddling poodle - it was no use. He was not fixed and he marked everywhere. We fixed him when he was about 5 and he never stopped marking. I would suggest finding a foster home for her that has a doggie door. Obviously you need a place to live and most landlords are not going to take a piddling pet. You need to take care of yourself. See if there is a poodle rescue group in your area. Maybe you can work something out with someone in the group to watch your pup for a while if you buy the food, etc. Given your situation, I am sure someone will be able to help.
Just don't expect an old dog to learn new tricks ... especially now. This has been unsettling for all of you.

I am so sorry for your situation, but also happy that you were able to save yourself and your pets. I would talk to a vet - your regular one if you have one, or look in the yellow pages. If you don't get the answers you want, make more calls. You could also talk to someone at PetSmart or other places that have dog obedience classes and tell them of your predicament - maybe the trainer will help you out. Perhaps the poodle will be able to learn new tricks since his situation will have changed, too - the change of home and training happening at the same time.

Good luck!

Why dont you see if your regular vet would board them at a discount or for free until you can find a dog friendly place to live. Our clinic did this for one of our clients- 2 cats, 2 dogs and a bird for about 3 months. If not perhaps a friend would be able to help you out even if they have to be split up. I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your home and I am glad that everyone got out safe. Good luck and I hope things will improve for you soon.

You could try this. Get a very large cardboard box and place a smaller one inside with kitty litter in it
Cut a doggy door in the larger box so that the dog enters the now makeshift toilet to do his business

Good luck
