It's my understanding that small children need naps right up until time to start kindergarden or pre-K. Most kids under two still take a morning and afternoon anp and many 3 and 4 year olds still take one nap a day. Check out www.babycenter.com it's full of useful information. Good luck!

Every child is different, my three year old still takes a nap about everyday and i have a friend whos child is in second grade that still likes to nap when she gets home from school yet my oldest son stopped taking naps at about 18 months and never has except the occasional nap when sick or something

The naps seem to get shorter and shorter. My 3 1/2 year old takes naps sporatically. I put her down almost everyday. Some days she's out for 3 hours, other days she lays in bed and whispers! I play it by ear now. On school days, she definately takes a nap..she's wound up to the point where she's exhausted. On non-school days,if there is something special we want to do,we skip the nap. Overall, she still needs them, she misbehaves more without them. I'm learning to shorten her naps because she's having trouble falling asleep at night when she takes them.

My daughter takes naps about 4-5 days out of the week. She is 18 months old. I would venture to guess that around age 2 they are not taking much of a nap anymore....at least for us!!

i was told by my doctor kids need naps intil they are about 5 or 6. My daughter is 2 and usually takes a 2 hour nap. It also depends alot on how much energy they have used that day.

My daughter is 4 1/2 and she is in Pre-K. She takes naps at school still, but her teacher tells me she only sleeps sometimes. On the weekends I don't give her naps because she'll just sit in her room for an hour and play.

My 3 1/2 year old still takes at least an hour nap every day. If he doesn't, he turns into a lunatic. I remember going to kindergarten and taking naps there.

I will say up until they're about 5 but it pretty much depends on the child. If he or she wants to go to sleep or not.
