I was hoping to send beer (six pack) to someone in Iraq through the A.P.O.

My first question is ... is this possible (or is it illegal)?

Second ... could he drink it once he got it (i.e., actually have it on his person or would this just get him into trouble)?

Thanks for all your help in advance especially military personnel that know exactly the answers!

Your not to mail anything with alcohol in it through the mail. As far as sending it to someone in the desert that is a huge no no.

You are not allowed to send alcohol through the mail. When you goto the post office to send a package to an APO address, they make you fill out a form and it specifically asks you not to send any liquids at all, or nicotine, or porn. They explained it to us that it is due to the laws of the country where the mail is being sent. Plus, thier mail gets checked, and he/she could get into trouble whether he/she knew it was coming or not. Nice thought though ;)

In most cases you cannot send alcohol overseas. Iraq is one of those cases. It's a dry country, believe it or not. To send it through an APO you'd have to lie on the customs claim form. That would get him into trouble if he got caught with it.

No, you cannot mail beer through the APO. And the person you are sending it to in Iraq cannot drink it. He will get in big trouble.

Service members serving in Iraq and Afghanistan are NOT allowed to receive alcoholic beverages. They are in a Muslim country and the military respects the "host" countries customs.

soldiers in iraq are not allowed to drink alcoholic beverages, nor are they allowed to receive such products through the mail service. i'm sure if you get caught mailing items thru the USPS, you could get fined since you have to fill out a customs form and such. also, the soldiers in theatre get their own alcohol from the locals. i know whiskey and vodka come through all the time.

It's against General Order Number one from CENTCOM Iraq. Since Iraq is a "dry " country, it against the general order to drink and break their customs. I know, I'm stationed there now. :S
