In my case, "give me a call" is formalism and the "sometime" means never. In the case of some men I know, that means "if you want sex I'll be ready". The ex of that guy knows him, and she already knows what that means, maybe he wants her back but not yet, and still don't have decided when, so he doesn't want to loose contact.

Sounds to me like he's trying to brush you off gently,but at the same time trying to keep you on the back burner,just in case he needs a booty call some night.Forget him and move on.
