Both of my grandmas have had Total Knee Replacements and both are now very healthy and strong. It took a LONG time (6 months for one, a year for the other) to heal, but it was worth it in the end. They can walk so well, it's amazing. I know it's scary - but your mom should probably be fine.

I'm sure your mom's Dr will watch her carefully for infections and such. My mom had knee surgery a few times and as of today she is ok. She is fully functional and able to walk. She can't run - but thats back related. Relax, your mom will be fine. Keep a smile on and don't give up on her things will work out!

It's a knee ... it's not as if it's a heart transplant ... Yes I know you're worried and I'm not saying don't be ... but it's a fairly routine operation and even if (God forbid) the absolute worse happens ... you'll still have your mom ... she may well have an annoying inhibiting limp but she'll still be here
Put your energy into being positive cause you'll only upset her as well
I'm sure everything will be just fine :)

Yes! If she is out and out of anestesia, she will most likely be fine. my mom has had a couple back surgeries, heart catherizations, and so much else. She has always pulled through fine. Just pray and be thankful she isn't waiting on a transplant list. Your mom will be fine. Try calling your dad, he's probably worried too.

Yeah, she will, Hon. My mom had her knee replaced last year and it took her a while for it to heal but it did heal and she is much, much better now. She needs to move around as soon as possible (that's where my mom made her mistake) and follow through on her physical therapy. Good luck, Sweetie...and help her as much as you can!

Yes, she will be fine. Those surgeries are now done every day. She will be fine. Make sure she does her rehab and if she notices any swelling in her foot, loss of feeling, etc. or any other bad side effects, she should go to the hospital.
