Why does the UK think it can stop global warming by charging us more tax and by stopping some CO2 levels when Africa plumes out more CO2 and fumes than anyelse and it will never stop as they dont have the structure.

Yes but all these stats they come up with are alot of crap. How can they measure that. Have you ever been to Africa. I work in Luanda in Angola and i have never seen such bad traffic james, it is worse than London. And those cars are not subject to emission tests every year or sorry at all. Also their wonderful airline has the oldest planes in the world i think and they are not exactly friendly to the skies either. Do you think any of this is taken into consideration in their stats cos i find it very hard to believe. I think they use those stats because they know it is never going to change over there but they know that we will cos we will do anything. We just love paying tax in this country it seems.

David M - If you have not been to Africa then you know nothing. I go there all the time and it is the most pollution i have ever seen in my life and trust me i have been to alot of countries on different continents. The stats are crap as they are taken on some other stats, how is it possible to measure the pollution? Africa is bad and always will be, i am not defending the US, they have told everyone they are not going to change and that is fine, but i am not paying more money to try make the world better when noone else is changing.

If the government really wanted to make a difference it could implement numerous schemes that are not just another tax:
Announce a date by which all households in Britain must use energy saving lightbulbs.
Impose charges or offer tax breaks to those who do and dont recycle.
Offer similar benefits to people that car share.
Make public transport useable.
I could go on and on but the government basically uses global warming as an excuse to make more money out of us.
Maybe they need it to fund the olympics!

I agree with Andyhp19. If people look to everyone else to tackle carbon emissions then nothing will ever be done. There is an opportunity here for Britain to lead the world with green technology. As Andy says where are the incentives for people to reduce global emissions? If a wind turbine cost you £100 after government grants and the planning process was easy - everyone would have one. That would make a massive impact. What about incentives for people to use bio-diesel. But the governments answer to everything is to tax it. It's very short sighted and people will, eventually, rebel against it. (Note the answers on here).
But for the sake of our children and our grandchildren we must do two things. 1 - minimise our impact on the environment. 2 - Give them the tools and technology to adapt to the changing world (It will change, there is no stopping it).
So stop complaining about the government and other countries and do it yourself. Recycle where you can, buy energy efficient products with as little packaging as possible, buy local produce, insulate your home, walk, cycle and get a wind turbine or solar panels. All these things in the long run can save you money, that can be spent on the governments new "green" taxes!

Africa? Where did you get that from?
The US with 5% of the world population produces 25% of the pollution. The UK just 2%.
China, Russia, India and many other countries are way ahead of Africa.
Taxes are taxes. They just fill Gordon Browns coffers. It is totally disingenuous for him to say it has anything to do with the environment. The only way it would help the environment is if those taxes gathered in the name of the environment were ploughed back into it and he is never going to do that!!!

Gordon Brown isn't trying to tackle global warming! That thought never crossed his mind he just likes the money he gets from taxing us for it.
I reckon in a few decades or so people will be laughing at us saying "Ah, that old trick, tell them all about 'global warming' - what wallies!"
By the way, a few years ago farmers came up with a new idea to make fuel that can be used by any car (made up of rape seed, sugar cane and that) but the government said "yeah, what a great idea, you'll be taxed 88%" so nobody can afford to make it. I honestly don't think the government give a fiddlers fart about global warming.

The UK is a place and can't think. There are some tossers in government, who think that Great Britain with 2% of world emissions can make a difference. For that, and other reasons, they are forever doomed to remain tossers.

The UK isn't out to sort out global warming by itself. What it is doing is avoiding falling into the trap of saying 'We're only responsible for a tiny fraction of emissions, so there's no point in us tackling our portion of the problem.' It's one thing to appreciate the global nature of the challenge, and quite another to claim that any effort to help is an exercise in futility, and hence as an excuse to continue polluting with impunity.

It doesn't, but it will certainly help slow the climate change down.
America is responsible for 75% of global carbon emissions, and is doing very little to reduce them.
Africa is way down the list of polluters.

Per person, the developing world produces much less carbon emission than the west. I think it's something like a tenth of what we produce. It's because they dont have as many cars, they don't need as much heating, they walk to work, wear second hand clothes etc.
We all need to be responsible. If everyone in the world says 'if I change, it's just going to be a drop in the ocean', then we will get nowhere. We have to start walking in the right direction little by little.
