Along with cutting coupons and getting sale items...planning a menu ahead is always a good idea.
I usualy make a menu on the day before I do my shopping (you can even find free templates on microsoft.com to help you get organized). Try to plan meals that use some of the same ingredients (such as, three meals that require tomato sauce) that way, you can use those coupons like "buy 3, get one free". You're going to buy three anyway, so why not take advantage of the sale?
Also, buying in bulk (like Sam's Club) is sometimes worth the membership, and sometimes not...always compare prices and bring a calculator. Sometimes buying a large can of somethingorother is more expensive than buying two small ones (both equalling out to the same volume).
Buying store brands is also a good idea. Most of the time, the only thing different is the label.
Always plan ahead, and know what you can spend...and remember to stick to your list...it's ok to get something extra if it's a really good deal, but don't go overboard...chances are, they'll be on sale again in the near future.

For more tips, try a book called "The Complete Tightwad Gazette" by Amy Dacyczyn...she has some GREAT ideas for moneysaving...also, check your newspaper for "hints from heloise"...also great ideas.

Try to buy food that is inexpensive, or keep well like pasta and rice in bulk since it won't go bad before you can use it. Try using things like tuna and low fat or turkey hot dogs in meals. There are lots of budget cook books available in thrift stores. I buy them and try all the recipes. Try to buy groceries when they're on sale. You'd be surprised how much food you can get at bag sales or bake sales. Keep an eye on local grocery circulars for upcoming sales and plan meals around what's cheap that week.

Best way I know of is to watch the weekly sales circular for specials and cut coupons. Some stores do the "buy one, get one free" specials and that can allow you to stock up. Also, many stores have double coupon days and that really helps, too. When possible, and when the price is actually good, buy meats in larger quantities and divide it up when you get home into several portions and freeze for later. Same goes for veggies and fruits when they are on sale. You can wash, blanch in boiling water and freeze them for later (depending on the fruit or veggie).

I do not kow what a stop n shop is. But try a kroger or publix-they are usually cheaper than walmart-guantee you! I buy 3 different kinds of sunday papers and get the coupon sections out of them-you may think, dang, thats $7 in papers-yes it is but you get like $150 in grocery coupons easily. Also try places like Proctor & gamble online, they have printable coupons. googling free samples, most samples, 99% of them, come with coupons that are better thant he papers in them. Most online places want you to pay to join or do like 50 surveys, the good ones just let you join. Just try brand sites (proctor & gamble, frito lay, seventh generation, and welches), and SUNDAY papers, they are the best! The only papers with coupons are usually the sunday papers! best of luck!!

I recommend getting a membership to a local co-op or health foods store in order to recieve additional discounts at checkout. I also shop the bulk foods section whenever I can because then you don't have to pay for packaging. It's cheaper.

Shop at HEB's. They have the best prices. And, but their brand instead of the name-brand. I get by on like $8-12/week.
