chicken soup is a pretty great food!!! the best I have seen was Innova though. But seriously.....stay on chicken soup. Science Diet is incredibly poor....Purina is just as bad (except one which is like iams) In a petstore the best brands are Natural Balance and Eukanuba. Feed stores sell the best of the best dog foods

Oh yes...basically to make things simple....

if it has a commercial then it sux! idk why its that way but all the dog foods that suck have a commercial. Yes that means...Iams, Science Diet, Purina....Oh god and if its from a supermarket....please just poison your dog now. Unless you go on the raw diet.

Go to petco and get a high quality all natural food with the first ingrediants meat NOT CORN. Anything you buy in the grocery stores, farm supplies, even the vets are JUNK FOOD.
The vet sells and promotes science diet, BUT they are not PET NUTRITIOISTS they are just PET DOCTORS. They get a 40 percent profit on what they sell so they promote it not because of the nutitional value but for the MONEY. Read the ingrediants.
Dog food companies are a multi billion dollar company and what they tell you is in the food is a lie basically. There is meat in the dog food if you call chicken beaks and feathers, euthanized cats and dogs and diseased livestock good meat quality. The by-products in the food is just that WASTE. Rotten Waste.

GOOD all natural dog foods are Innova, wellness, solid gold, california natural, and of course there are others but i only mentioned a few. Look at the ingrediants in the dog food and it will tell u alot.
Better quality food costs a bit more, but they eat less and poop less and the overall health of your dog will be better with less medical problems (if any)

I too have worried about the quality of food my dog eats.I have done alot of research and have found that most brands are all the same. With the exception of kibbles n bits,ol'roy, and cheap products.
In the end I have settled with raw food.I like the fact that it doesn't have any wheat, flour or grains. Its all natural. The brand is natures variety.Although raw isnt a choice for everyone.
If the first ingredient is anything but a meat chances are its not a good food. The first ingredient on a bag is what the majority of the food is made of.Eg,if the first ingredient is corn gluten meal, the food contains mostly that.People often think "meat by-products" are not healthy when they really are.A dog can benefit from the connective tissue, stomache.intestines, bone ect.In the wild a dog would go for the innards before eating a muscle.
I also think genetics play a role in a dogs lifespan,my friend fed his dog science diet and people food including coffee for her whole life. The dog lived to 18 years.
good luck!

Nutro - Natural Choice
This brand makes many varieties for all different size, age and breed of dogs. It does not contain corn, maiking it more digestible. The more protien and less filler --- the less poop to clean up. I've had my dogs on this brand for some time and they have done wonderfully. They eat well, they have tiny turds and their skin and coat and so healthy.
It is available at most Petstores and it is fairly reasonable. The grocery store brands are about as healthy as feeding your dog sawdust.

Royal Canin; Timberwolf; Welness. I used Royal Canine and my dog is doing great, i would give her Timberwolf softfood and that was great and I recently switched to Wellness, more expensive but it is very healthy, as good if not better then cooking food for your dog, and is all natural. My dog loves the taste more then the Royal Canin

There are numerous brands on the market and if you are interested in canine nutrition then I suggest that you but Dog Nutrition from the dummies range of books and have a good read. Personally I feed mine on Royal Canin Canine Range because they are very reasonably priced (which helps) but mainly because it isn't filled with rubbish that causes allergies and can even shorten the the longevity of your dog, All of my dogs are fed it (I have 4) and all of them thrive on it, with brilliant coats, no allergies (which one of my dogs is very prone to) and the range covers pup to elderly and sensitive or active and they have also started doing breed specific food. - Hope this helps

you should look at the ingredients. you do not want to feed your dog anything that has the first few ingredients listed as: corn, wheat, flour, grain, or meal. you want your first ingredient to be meat and if possible no corn, wheat, flour, grain or meal anywhere in the food.
wild wolves (who are closely related to dogs) don't hunt wheat and corn fields. they eat meat. it is the best for your dog. it is more expensive but it is so much better for your dog.

Royal Canin!! They have different types for different types of dogs (i.e if you have a small white dog, theres a special one for that, a chihuahua, etc) This is the kind i use for my dogs and it works great. and when they were puppies, they loved this stuff!

Science Diet! Recommended by vets everywhere. It's more expensive but worth it in the long run. If your dogs are going to the bathroom alot on Science Diet, mix it with a cheaper brand. It'll solve it... Good luck!

Iams and Science Diet both are great choices but the breed has a lot to do with the choice as well. Breeds require different nutritional needs.
