The only way to get rid of a bad habit is to REPLACE it with a good habit.
Best wishes and good luck.

Throw them in a bin and start over by buying some good habits from a nunnery... Can't wash out a bad habit.

it depends what it is
if its biting ur nails, you could buy this special nail polish that tastes horrible so everytime you try to bite them you'll stop
if its chewing the back of ur pen, you could start using pencil -- beleive me -- the first time u bite the eraser and the metal part holding it on... you'll stop forever
if its something else i would just tell my friends to stop me every time i do it, that way ill become more aware of when i do it, and they'll tell u to stop each time so eventually u wont do it anymore.
good luck getting rid of ur habits!

I dont know much about breaking bad habits but I do know if it is biting your finger nails you should carry nail clippers around with you and everytime you feel like biting them clip your nails. It worked for me.

Be sufficiently motivated. Sometimes this works analagously to a "slam dunk" or "brick wall". It did for me in several cases.

Reward yourself with something you like to do (or eat) every day you go without doing one of them. If you are a nail biter (like me), get some nasty tasting nail polish. XD
