Lice can spread to other heads by close contact with someone who has lice. Like bumping heads, sharing combs/brushes, backpacks/bags, stuffed animals that the person with lice shares with their pals, laying in the same general area that someone with lice laid in/on,sharing hats and coats, etc. It is a parasite.
It's very treatable, lice shampoo and picking out the nits and disposing of them. Laundering EVERYTHING (bedsheets, blankets, worn clothes, towels) in the hottest temperature possible and drying on high heat for at least 20 minutes to kill any that might be remaining on the items. Bag up stuffed animals for at least 10 days or if possible dry them for 20 minutes as well! Vacuum mattresses, boxsprings, carpet, furniture and dispose of the vacuum waste immediately.
The key is to retreat when the lice shampoo tells you to retreat in case any eggs/nits you missed days before could've hatched on your childs head during that time. (It's not known if the lice shampoo kills EVERY egg that's why it's important to find every one and pick'em out....) And redo everything that you did days before where laundering and vacuuming are concerned. Good luck!

lice can spread in many ways like if someone has lice you can spread it by using that person's brush or comb. Lice are very little they are not just going to jump head to head. Anything that requires your head can really. Sleeping on someones pillow, touching someones hair then yours, and even standing next to someone really close for a long while like sleeping next to them. Remember African Americans can't get lice because their hair is to greasy and Caucasian can cause they wash their hair everyday and their hair is extra clean.

When people get close to one another or to things the lice/lice eggs fall off and then they jump onto another person and lay eggs.

mostly it will jump from one head to another or if you sit or lay down in a spot where someone with lice has been. lice is awful but treatable. good luck with it my daughter had it for 3 damn months no matter what i did i could not get rid of it. it takes cycles of lice life to be gone with them. do a lot of vacuuming and laundry plus picking of the head to get them out.

LICE CAN JUMP UP TO 6 FEET. If you lay in or around the same spot that someone else has that has it, you can get it. CHEAP WAY TO RID IT, COVER ALL OF HAIR WITH VASELINE OVER NIGHT USING A SHOWER CAP TO SLEEP IN. USE DAWN DISH LIQUID TO WASH IT OUT THE NEXT MORNING. It WILL SUFFICATE THE LICE.

Interesting fact: Lice can jump up to three fet, propelling themselves onto other beings.
They can get in your cloths and anything that might be made of anything that picks up hair... you carpet, your bed clothes. They'll just follow hair. So as well as going from head to head they can wonder their way towards you through that means also

Headlice do not jump! Like fleas do!
I think you get them from body contact, clothes, combs etc...
