The math is incorrect. If they had been charged $27.00 for the room originally, they would have each given the man $10.00, and each received $1 change, making the math problem 9+9+9=27, and 27+3=30, the $3 being the key. Instead, the way the problem reads, it is turned into 27+2=29, which is where the confusion lies. The problem should be $25 (room rate) + $2 (what the bellboy kept) = $27, and $27 + $3 (the change the three guys received) = $30.

There is no mystery. The room cost (30 - 5) = 25. They gave a $2 tip which makes $27. Each one had put in $(10 - 1) = $9. Three times 9 is 27. It all adds up.
This is an old one, what you have done is to account for the $2 tip twice and got a total that is $2 too high, not $1 too low.
OH, the answer to "everything I say is a lie" is he lying or telling the truth? is he is lying. The reason is that there are three possibilities, he always lies, he always tells the truth or sometimes he lies. If the truth is that sometimes he lies then when he says "everything I say is a lie" then that is a lie.

if the room was originally 40, marked down to 30, shouldnt the bell boy have given back 10 dollars not 5. and for that matter, shouldnt the 3 guys have just paid the discounted price to the desk clerk in first place, which would have been 10 dollars a piece? and even if the guys did spend 9 dollars each, and gave the bell boy two, the bell boys tip does not count towards the room charge of thirty dollars which would have made them 3 dollars short and wouldnt have gotten any change back, or the key to the room for that matter....

Well.. if they originally spent $30, then they spent $10 each in the first place. Then they got the 5 back, and each kept 1 and gave the $2 tip, and it evens out.

they have $30, 30-2=28, 28-(9x3)=1
the total ammount spent was $29
that's how much they spend, they still have a dollar left! that was really simple, they never spent that last dollar so it didn't go anywhere
how is that a trick question? heres a trick question for ya...
if a guy comes up to you and says "everything I say is a lie" is he lying or telling the truth?

your math is bad, they each spent 9 and one third dollars, giving a total of 28 between the three of them, and the bellboy tip of two for a total of 30.

First of all, stop saying "well" at the beginning of every sentence. Second, this is probably the fifth time I've seen this question on here, it's a trick, there is no missing money.
