That man should not be working in the store. If the man has done this before, why hasn't the manager or anyone else corrected this issue? If I were you, I would contact the manager and let him know I would not be coming back to his store as long as that employee is still working there. I would also tell him how I am going to let everyone I know what the problems are at the store and advise them not to shop there either. Trust me, keeping customers is more important than keeping a jerk of an employee.

I think you need to put in a formal complaint to the establishment in the form of a letter. I would make it very strong and suggest that you may be thinking of taking legal action due to the effect it has had on your son.
Once that side is covered I would perhaps change the place you shop if there is a place that is convenient. I think I would speak to the manager of the new store and explain the situation and ask if when you bring your son in the manager could perhaps find the time to speak to your son and make the experience a happy one. This should hopefully cancel out the negative experience from before. Then if the other store does the right thing you could perhaps arrange to go back there and have the same thing done. I think the store has an obligation to make sure that if this person is going to work there they should only be given work that does not bring them into contact with shoppers. Adults may understand that the person has a problem but a five year old wont.

I was at a customer site yesterday and they more or less called me a ******* and a plague. But I work in sales. I get that all the time.
I guess one thing is to ask your kid how that made him feel, and let him work it out "out loud" what if anything he thinks he should do. Probably a bad idea to be defensive of the kid here, because some day some a-hole in a beemer is going to cut him off on the highway and it's just going to suck to be him. Or your kid can grow up and BE the a-hole in the beemer.
It's a learning moment for both of you -- on how to be a good parent and not just a protective one.
As for the store folks, call HQ and run the thing ALL the way up the flagpole, put your complaint in writing, and don't just b*tch. Take some specific actions if you have any to take. Don't just 'not shop there"... tell him that you're going to tell your friends not to shop there... then do that. Don't threaten to do it -- DO it.
It's tough to be schizophrenic, I am sure. But that's no more excuse for his bizarre behavior than my claiming my blood sugar was low, so it's OK I was an a-hole. Not medicating yourself is not a civil right.

The man should obviously not be working there. Its sad that he has a disability, but he shouldn't be working around people. If he's going to scare innocent young children, then the supermarkets not his place.
I would file a complaint at the customer service desk. The management seems to have some kind of handle on it. Since the manager came out and sent the man home, the case has been reported.

Keep a close watch on your child every time you go into the store, make sure you avoid this person and if the problem persist or the man becomes violent you have every right to contact the police and or better business bureau. If the store manager wont do anything about it go over his head to the owner or franchise manager. Granted employers can not discriminate but the safety of their patrons is top priority.

You did the right thing by telling the manager. I would also see if i would have filed a police report so this jerk would be on record he used foul language with a child. Let jerks like that thing twice about talking to anyone like that again.
Then you need to sit down with your son and tell him there are people in this world that are not so nice. You don't have to deal with them and you should not there are ways of taking care of people like that an if you ever come across anything like that again we will take care of it the proper way. Also let your son know that the jerk is the exception not the rule.

The man already got sent home...what more do you want? Some people are just not nice.
You missed your chance for some get back.
I'm disappointed that you did not take this chance to let your inner "*****" out. Every woman has one...and it is especially apparent in matters about ones children. You should have stayed and showed your son that you were not, nor should he be intimidated by peoples varying moods.
Peace.

I would hold the manager responsible -- he IS responsible for you feeling safe & comfortable in his store. NO employee should be allowed to retain their job under these circumstances. If he did not fire the guy, I would go up the ladder to Corp and make a formal complaint against both of them.
I would also sit my son down and explain that the man is 'sick' and it is NOT anything he did. God love your little one, situations like this just suck.

God, that stock boy is living my DREAM!
I wish I could tell customers off and get away with it, especially after a long day of screaming kids tearing things off the shelves, parents complainging about where something is or isnt, people asking questions, making minimum wage, being treated like a peeon.
Crazy or not, dudes got balls.
If its a chain store call the head office and complain.

This child is old enough to understand that are normal and sick people. Teach him to cope with sick people by getting help, like the store manager, but then forgiving them and maybe praying that they get better and do not hurt anyone else.
