There are two main reasons.
When you see little old ladies and men hunched over, it is usally due to osteoporosis or compression fractures of the thoracic spine.
The other reason is that the discs (shock absorbers) between each spine has fluid in them. As we grow older, there is less fluid and even if there is a millimeter less, if you multiply that by 33 segments, that would be 33 millimeters (3.3 cm) which is about 1 1/2 inches. Some people lose more than a millimeter per segment. Thus they can be several inches shorter in their older age.

Also, this phenomenon is reversible in younger people. If you were to check you r height in the morning upon awakening, you would be taller than after a complete day in the upright position. This is becasue the discs compress during the day due to gravity, but after a nights sleep, the discs revive themselves. This is what happens as we get older, the only difference is that our body does not bounce back as we age.

no you just had a growth spurt before everyone else. And now your friends are all catching up to you. You are still gunna grow, most people stop at like 17ishh well around there. Most of the time, 13 year olds don't shirink. The only reason older people shrink is because the back bone starts to deteriorate im not sure if thats the write word for it tho.

By shrink, I am assuming that you mean getting shorter, if I am wrong about my assumption I apologize ahead of time. When you get older, a lot of times you don't have strong enough bones anymore, so you get little fractures along your spine which cause you to seem shorter or to even get a hump. Doctors can give you shots and supplements to help keep your bones strong and to help with the pain that it sometimes causes when you have osteoporosis.

THE ACTUAL REASON HAS TO DO WITH THE SPONGY VERTEBRAL DISK BETWEEN THE VERTEBRA IN YOUR SPINE. WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT OVER THE YEARS THERE IS A DRYING OUT PROCESS THAT MAKES THE DISTANCE BETWEEN EACH VERTEBRA SMALLER BY HAVING THIS DISTANCE DECREASE. THAT'S WHY YOU GET SHORTER AS YOU AGE.
