Small dog breeds are prone to lots of medical problems in breeding and giving birth. And, if both parents aren't champion show dogs, you aren't going to get top prices for them. You will likely lose money or break even on many of the litters. Your male and female will both need extensive vet checks beforehand to make sure that they are healthy, that they don't have stds, and that they don't have genetic defects common to the breed. Then your mother pup will need vet visits during the pregnancy to make sure everything is going well, and to make sure the puppies aren't too large to be birthed normally. Finally, small dogs like chiuauas and min pins may need to have cesarian section births, or vet assisted births, because the pups are too large and/or her hips are too small. And if there are any problems with the mother or any pups during the birth, thats another vet visit and more vet bills. Plus the wormings, any problems with the pups, AKC papers, taking the pups back if need be, etc. and breeding can be expensive. If you think you are just going to do it the old fashioned way, and not do all the vet visits, know that you will likely make even less money on the pups, and you will probably lose your mother dog in the process.

I have to agree with the others, you shouldn't breed dogs for money. There are way more dogs than homes. I will say that I love Italian Greyhounds.I have seen the blue colored ones go for 800 dollars. They are a toy breed and are sweet and beautiful dogs. There is a lot entailed in getting your dogs registered, and you can't do it until they reach a certain age. You can look up this info at the AKC website.

None of the above. Take a look at your local shelter, they are full - with every breed of dog. Please be responsible and don't contribute to the ever-growing number of unwanted dogs in this country!

backyard breeding is a mistake no matter what breed it is. breeding responsibly takes time and education. its not an easy career. you have to love the breed, economics isn't a factor. thats where bad breeding gets started. you should find a new hobby.

Silky terriers. I am biased because I have one, but I have been seeing them a lot on TV and ad campaigns.

I think its the Maltese! Maltese could go for over 2,000 dollars. I love them also Chihuahuas are good too! They always depend on their sizes but small ones could go for 700dollars. Also Yorkies(Yorkshire Terriers) are good too. Could go up to about 2,000dollars.
