As a pre k Sunday school teacher, some of the most "thoughtful" gifts that I have treasure the most from students are:
A popcorn bucket with a pack of Red Vines licorice, a movie rental coupon, a bottle of Coca Cola, and a pack of microwave popcorn.
Hand made ornaments that the kids have painted, made, colored, has their picture on it, whatever, I love hanging these on my tree every year.
A book of photos of the kids in the class participating in various activities throughout the years with stickers, the kids handprints, and what the child like best about the class.
Anything with a child's handprint or picture on it (tote bag, apron, t-shirt, the list could go on and on and on)
A batch of cookies, cupcakes, or a gingerbread house in a special tin or container that the child helped make

My daughter has 1 teacher and 2 aides. They're all wonderful and deserve a nice gift each. I also wondered what to get w/o spending too much. The class mother asked us all if we would like to donate $20.00/child and get each teacher a gift cert to a local store or restaurant. This is a nicer idea that what I originally had in mind and turns out to be less expensive.

You could talk to the other parents in her class. If you each give 2 or 3 dollars you'll be able to give her a nice gift card or buy a nice gift basket. Otherwise, I usually just get a Christmas mug at the dollar store and fill it with two or three individual packs of flavored cocoa and a candycane.

I feel like gift card is a good option, b'cos most parents i know go for it and the teacher can decide what to do with it instead of us buying something she might not need.

Wow, I hadn't even thought of giving my son's preschool teacher a present. Maybe just a card would be good. ESPECIALLY if you don't really have the money to do it.
I wouldn't, but that's just me.

My child is just in day care--he's only 15 months old--but your teacher is with bigger kids--I'd opt for bath stuff so she can relax at home.
