Can I mix certain paints with wax and heat up a canvas? What about melting down crayons with oil pastels? Should I add a mineral spirits medium and/or acrylic thinner or a resin?

I don't know that much about encaustic but a good friend of mine does it. If your dealing with wax what you can do is melt up crayons as well as get coloring from the store. For encaustic I think you can get them in different colors. Yeah you can mix paints with wax as my friend did. I don't know about resin though.. won't the wax melt? What my friend did is she sprayed fixative all over it, thats all I know about encaustic. hope it helped.

You have to mix refined beeswax and damar resin with either a dry pigment or oil paint that has been left out to dry a little so it's less oily.
