I remember a long time ago when a hydroplane boat accident happened in the Seattle area and a person was killed but, while they were running to the scene in a boat, the news anchor person lead the entire audience in The Lord's Prayer on King 5 News a very popular station. Since then that man has always been known for that and so very much respected but, you'd never in a million years see or hear that now.

A city council session is not a church meeting. If Christian council members want to have a prayer, let them do it before the meeting, not as part of the business of the council. How would a Christian council member feel if she were the lone Christian and everyone else was, say, Muslim, and each meeting was begun with a reading from the Qur'an?

It would be funny for a non-christian to say a Lord's prayer isn't it. If the whole council are christians than its normal/ordinary, if not than the non-christians will be pitiful during the prayer time.

they used to use the Lords Prayer at IBM dinners.. even in the late 70s sometimes.... more common before that

generally what you see is people who think freedom from offense is more important than free expression of religion... they don't seem to mind if their religious viewpoint, secular humanism, is taught in schools, but want to ban all others from the public square

in England its worse as there is talk among the elite of making teaching children about religious ideas illegal, see Elton JOhn adn Richard Dawkins as examples

There MUST BE a separation of Church and State matters, where one cannot dictate the other.

Peace be with you.
